Title: I Can't Tell You I Love You
Characters/Parings: Jack/Ianto, Gwen, Gwen/Rhys, Mentions of Tosh and Owen
Rating: NC-15 for strong language
Summary: It's a quiet day in the Hub except for a strange knocking and an upset Captain.
Beta: Un-checked. All mistakes are copyright to me xD
A/N: This is the result of an ill 15 year old at work. If it's rubbish, that's why.
It was a quiet day in the Hub. No rift spikes, no gooey mess for Owen to clear up and put everyone off their dinner with, not even a Weevil. As far as days went this was the definition of the crap category. The machines whirring noises were the only noises in the Hub for hours, it was one of those few occasions you needed something awful to happen.
Ianto had long since gone down to the archives when Gwen went over to the coffee machine hoping to see him there. She knew if she touched the machine she'd be on decaf for life and with the job, that really wasn't going to be a good alternative. The ghostly illumination from the age old Torchwood lights covered the vast interior of the Hub leaving monstrous shadows in areas of the Hub apparently not explored for years. That was when she heard the knocking. It wasn't particularly loud. It wasn't particularly quiet. But it was a definite knock.
"Hallo, is anyone there?", Gwen shouted out, her voice echoing around the cold stone walls.
She paced around the Hub unassured of what exactly was happening, nothing could have gotten in. Tosh was with her auntie, Owen was pissed so took the day off and made her cover for him. But where was Jack. She vaguely remembered him being a bit depressed earlier that day, come to think of it so was Ianto when he padded down to the archives. All she knew for now at least was that she was alone.
Gwen ran to the CCTV to see what if anything was happening. Ianto was busy filing away pieces of rock from an incident with what turned out to be an outer space toaster a few weeks back and Jack was looking withdrawn in his office. Nothing unusual. Strange. She decided to go and see Jack, see if she was going slightly mad or something was actually going on.
She knocked on the door and allowed herself in after not recieved the slightest hint of emotion from her boss.
"Jack, are you alright?", questioned Gwen.
He made no attempt to move when Gwen stood by him offering a comforting hug of support.
"I've lost him, Gwen.", Jack stuttered.
"Lost who?"
"Ianto. I had to be such a complete arse again. I knew I should have told him there and then"
"Look Jack, whatever it is he will forgive you. I mean everyday just watching him Jack, he fucking loves you. You know you can always tell me anything right". She said as she clung onto Jack tighter feeling his body tremble with what seemed to be worry.
"Gwen. You'll think I'm an arse for this. I couldn't tell him I loved him too.", Jack sobbed uncontrolably.
"God Jack. Tell me everything.. and more importantly why not"
"Gwen you have to understand this. I have lost everyone I have ever loved in my entire lifetime, some of them my own doing others I had to outlive. I never want to lose Ianto and if I admit that I've fallen again, it's gonna be so much harder to come to terms with. Because then he walked away from me and we haven't spoke since. I've got to tell him, because I've fallen again." Jack sobbed.
"Jack I neither hate or blame you. I saw what happened with Estelle and how true your love was, go and tell him Jack."
They clung together in a heap for a few moments before gently releasing each other. Gwen looked down at Jacks' desk and saw his knuckles dripping with blood from what appeared to be scaping them on his desk for what seemed to be apparently numerous times. Jack stood up and set off for the archives.
Another relationship solved, now she just had to sort out her own.
